Annual conference set for Jan. 24 in Sioux Falls

The South Dakota Canoe Association will host its annual conference starting at noon on Jan. 24, at the Outdoor Campus in Sioux Falls.

We'll have a number of speakers - hopefully my car will start and I can bring a pair of boats down for show & tell - and we'll elect some officers for the 2009 paddling season.

It's a great time to get out and connect with fellow canoe and kayak enthusiasts and it's also a great time to start planning for 2009 paddling operations.

Among the highlights for 2009 include a Cheyenne River two to three-day op I am going to organize myself. Other members are recruiting some folks for BWCA operations, and we're hoping to set a date when members (and anyone will to drive to Pierre) can gather in our state's capital to do a bit of paddling with the hometown guys in that fair city.

Dick Davidson will amaze us with one of his arctic adventure slide shows, and non-members who want to join can do so right at the meeting. It's free and open to the public, so bring a friend and we'll see you in Sioux Falls the weekend before the Super Bowl.

I make a few trips to the BWCA every year. Definitely a place that builds lasting memories. While you're planning your trip you might want to check out http://www.wildpaddle.com/bwca-campsites for Entry Point and Campsite information.
